Keadby power station employees help transform children’s play area

Each and every SSE employee is able to use one working day a year to volunteer in their local communities and through our employee led Community at Heart scheme we support a range of local causes and charitable efforts.

Hazel Drury, Keadby power station’s Community at Heart champions recently joined colleagues spending some time at Wrawby Playing Field helping to transform the children’s play area.

They spent the day cleaning and painting the play equipment and the work they carried out certainly impressed the local people and more importantly, the children.

“It was hard work but very rewarding and felt like I really made a difference,” Hazel said.

“I’m really proud to work for a company that allows its employees to do a day of paid volunteering every year. The children and local villagers were absolutely amazed at the transformation.”

Mrs Hunt from Wrawby Playing Fields said “I’d like to thank the SSE team for all their hard work, it wouldn’t have come together so quickly without their efforts. The kids really enjoy using their new play area.

“It really makes a difference to receive help from so many people and I think it’s great that SSE pays them to volunteer down here.”

Through Community at Heart, our employees, individually or in teams work on projects ranging from DIY, gardening, administrative tasks as well as supporting third sector organisations to deliver school talks or provide IT support.

SSE is proud to support charities, organisations and schools, giving our time and skills to help our local communities. If you are not-for-profit organisation or group and could use SSE volunteers for a specific project that can be completed in a day or so please visit our dedicated Community at Heart page to see how we can help.
